USWNT game
April 8, we watched the US Women’s National Soccer Team beat Ireland down in Austin. We went down the evening before the game and our hotel was only two blocks from the stadium so we walked over with plenty of time to take pictures and buy merchandise before kickoff.
Our hotel was right between the stadium and a high-end shopping district, so we did a little shopping the evening we arrived, after dinner, and Carter found some chocolate bars.
March highlights
March 3 – Raine’s soccer game
March 4 – Deacon’s basketball tournament (Carter was key to their 2nd place finish)

February sports highlights
February 4 – I only took video of Carter’s game and never got it cut into a highlights video. But at least I got a group photo from Raine’s YW basketball game.
February 7 – Raine’s freezing cold soccer game in the rain
February 10 – Raine’s soccer game
She had some serious turf burn which eventually produced enough blood that she got sent off the field.
February 14 – Raine’s soccer game
February 17 – Raine’s soccer game ended in a tie and went to penalty kicks. Raine was the only one on her team to make it!
I was screaming so loud when she made it that I had to delete the audio on the video!
February 18 – Carter’s basketball team, the Hawks, placed 2nd in the end-of-season tournament after taking 3rd in the regular season.
February 21 – Raine’s soccer game
February 24 – Raine’s soccer game

January sports highlights
January 14 – Carter was back on the basketball court
Raine played with the Young Women team and scored some points!
January 21 – Carter had a great game; here are the highlights:
January 27 – Raine played in her first High School Varsity soccer game. She had a great game, unfortunately, the rest of her team wasn’t as great.
Here’s a highlights video from the first half. I had to leave at halftime because Daddy and I had tickets to see the Lion King musical.
January 28 – Carter had another basketball game.
Aspen Snowmass ski vacation
January 2-7, 2023 we joined several other families that we know through soccer on the first ever Colleyville Ski Club ski trip to Snowmass, Colorado. We stayed at the Snowmass Mountain Chalet which was right on the slope so we could ski-in and ski-out. The kids skied 3 days and DJ and I skied 4 days.
January 2 – our original flight into Aspen was canceled the day before we were schedule to leave so they re-routed us through Houston (rather than Denver). The flight was later than our original booking, and then it was delayed another couple hours, so it was late when we finally arrived.
January 3 – we rented the kids’ skis/snowboard and hit the slopes. It was too cold and snowy for me take any photos beside this one of Raine on our way back from the ski shop next door to the hotel.
January 4 – Raine took too long to get ready in the morning, so we skied without her for the first couple hours.
Raine was eventually ready so I skied back to pick her up.
January 5 – we all headed out together and had perfect weather.
Carter snowboarding down a blue run.
Raine skiing down a blue, then a black diamond.
That night, all the adults went to a nice dinner at Little Mammoth Steak House. Before we left, we took a group photo in the hotel lobby.
January 6 – Daddy and I skied all by ourselves in the deep powder on the black runs. It was exhausting!
That night, we down to the Snowmass Village to eat crepes for dinner.
January 7 – We didn’t have to leave for the airport until 3:00, so Raine and Daddy went to ride the mountain coaster while Carter and I took the bus over to Aspen to look around.
Christmas 2022
December activities
12/6/22 Carter’s third (last) Cross Country race: 1.5 miles, 10:57.91, 69th out of 176.
12/9/22 Raine’s school soccer team
12/10/22 Carter’s first basketball game. They got KILLED by a team that was significantly bigger than them.
12/12/22 Raine attempting to decorate a gingerbread house (it didn’t end well).
12/16/22 Raine and Ruby’s last day of school before Christmas break.
12/17/22 Carter’s second basketball game. They won pretty handily. Carter was the 2nd highest scorer on his team with 5 points.
Near the end of the game, Carter got flung to the ground and “broke” his thumb. He stayed in the game and still managed to pull down a key rebound, but we went to the urgent care afterward and he is going to be in a brace for a little while.
The nurse practitioner at the urgent care pointed out the “broken” bone to us on the x-ray while we were there and made a referral to an orthopedist. However, she called us later that afternoon and told us that the radiologist report said that there was nothing abnormal in the x-ray. The nurse practitioner told us that she wasn’t comfortable with that and told us that we should still go to the orthopedist. Fortunately, Brother Garff in the ward is an orthopedist, so he checked it out for us at church the next day. He said that there was definitely something there, but that it wasn’t bad enough to require a cast and should feel better in a week if he just continued to wear the brace. We were fine with that, so that’s what Carter is doing.
12/21/22 Young Women activity
Parents’ weekend in NYC
Several couples from our ward took a quick trip to NYC on December 2-3 — Andy and Beka Phillipp, John and Gisel Merrifield, Shaun and Faith Garff, and Paul and Glory Watts. We saw two musicals: “& Juliet” and “Hadestown”; we ate at Joe’s Pizza and had an amazing dinner at Quality Meats; we got robbed by bicycle rickshaws; we had amazing hot cocoa and desert at Max Brenner; and we walked around Time Square, Rockefeller Square, and 5th Avenue looking at the Christmas sights.
